Webcasting

What is it?

Webcasting is often used by councils to broadcast committee meetings over the Internet. Sometimes these are done live and sometimes they are just recorded but typically they are made available on the council websites for public to view.

Why bother with it?

Webcasts often raise the profile of the council and enable citizens who might otherwise struggle to attend council meetings to go. They are of interest also to other councillors who are unable to attend a meeting and to officers too. Webcasting though has a much wider application and councils often use them to promote their services as they add multi-media to often otherwise dry website.

The ICELE guide below cover other forms of multi-media such as Podcasting which has become very popular recently.
